Life in contrasts... where is your focus?
|| FOCUS || All life appears in contrasts... From our car being broken into to sublime morning walks on the hill. So where do I put my energy?
It's not always easy to keep my eyes on the positive and beautiful. But if our car hadn't been broken into we might have never spoken to the lovely ladies who helped us while I reported the break-in to the police, who found our belongings back in the woods the next day, who are sending us messages this week to wish my daughter good luck for her exams.
Yes, it's hassle to deal with things like that. But every day I want to see the sun shine, hug my family and move forward in the most positive way possible. Like Viktor Frankl said when he was in a concentration camp in WWII: 'Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.' In other words: this requires a choice, as I might not be able to change what happens but I can change my response to it.
So I choose not to feel negative about the more challenging things in life and to feel compassion for the people who for some unknown reason to me feel a need to take other people's belongings. I choose not to judge them, but to go for a walk and to love that ray of sunlight popping through the trees.
.
If you were to experience something challenging today, please be aware of the fact that you too have a choice. Think about who you want to be in that situation, and what will be a better state of mind to help you through it: one of judgement or one of compassion. What helps you most to move forward, deal with your day and sleep well tonight?
.
I wish you an amazingly beautiful day.
